Vela is a constellation in the Southern Hemisphere that forms the sails of Argo Navis, the legendary ship that carried Jason and the Argonauts on their journey to retrieve the Golden Fleece. For us it represents the astronomical journey we are on, but more importantly it reminds us how we can build extraordinary things and forge legends by coming together. Whether it’s stars in the night sky, a team working to create something new, or players overcoming epic challenges, together we can shine brighter.
At Vela we love games of every type, but we know that multiplayer, when done well, has a special ability to bring people together. Unforgettable moments are created through the power of playing together. It allows players to keep in touch with old friends regardless of distance, and to forge new friendships that will last lifetimes. Vela was created with these moments in mind, and our focus every day is thinking about how we can create impactful gaming experiences that inspire gamers around the world to play and win together.
We are just starting out and will have much more to share over the coming months as we grow our team and bring our first project to life. Growing up playing video games his whole life, one day Travis decided to make the leap to creator. After learning to program and working at Activision, Travis was deeply inspired by playing World of Warcraft, and eventually ended up at Riot Games early on where he lead Gameplay Production on League of Legends for many years. After a long tenure at Riot, a move from California to Ireland, and an MBA, Travis co-founded Vela Games with the idea that games can build lasting connections and unite players together.

Brian has been making up stories since The Ancient Times (the 80’s). He worked in theater, independent film, and local television before earning his degree in game development. In the 16 years since, he has contributed to more than 25 published titles for Sony, Activision, and Electronic Arts. He also wrote a monologue for Sir Patrick Stewart that contained the phrase “dire chinchillas.” Brian is thrilled to bring his breadth of experience to Vela Games and looks forward to introducing players to the amazing new world his team is creating.

Lisa is a lifelong gamer who has spent more than 15 years studying games, and the communities and cultures that shape these modes of play. After earning a PhD in Anthropology from UCLA, she moved from Los Angeles to Dublin to join the Insights team at Riot Games, where she helped teams better understand and ultimately unlock better experiences for players in Europe. Lisa is excited to help co-create not only a new game, but a new, vibrant community of passionate gamers through interaction and epic shared experiences.
